ICAN Community Center is designed to provide a place for both Individual and Group service options to individuals with Developmental Disabilities. We also can support individuals on a behavioral or medical basis. The Community Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Support services that we provide include, but are not limited to: promoting volunteerism in the community as a way to give back or to learn pre-employment skills; using technology; developing social skills by making and interacting with new friends; learning how to advocate for ones-self; positive communication; learning about the community and using the resources in the community; current topics and events; daily living skills; recreation and leisure activities; community integration and much more. A person who may need a safe place to be during the day while family is at work may need the services full-time. Others who would like to come for specific events or on a part-time basis may also do so; depending on the need of the individual. The ICAN Community Services Children's Program is located in our main office building. These services are designed to enhance the social experience, communication skills, and provide developmental activities for children with Developmental Disabilities after school in a group or individual setting as we support individuals with medical or behavioral needs. Children make and learn to maintain new friendships, practice and learn important social skills, daily living skills, interact in sharing, taking turns, communicating positively with others, working on age and developmentally appropriate tasks of greater independence and learn life skills by having fun! The skills learned through our Children's Program are designed to support the child to increase positive interactions with others in the family, at school, in the community, and for themselves. Other activity and skill areas include: learning about the community, sports, self-determination, sensory-motor development, working on routine(s), starting and completing tasks, arts and crafts, increasing self-awareness, cooking, and much more! The Children's Program is for any child of school age (up to graduation) and is open Monday-Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
